When we finally behold Jesus Christ in His fullness and glory, we will be like Him fully—for we will see Him as He is (1 John 3:2). That is when the capstone is placed at the top of the new Temple, that is when the work in finally and completely finished.
But God is no procrastinator. If the one greater than Solomon will be the one to complete the Temple, the one greater than David is preparing all the materials for that Temple now. To the extent that we “see Him as He is” now, to that extent, we are being transformed from one degree of glory to another (2 Cor. 3:18). We are living typologically in the time of David. We are living in a time when the living stones are being assembled and gathered, when they are being shaped (invisibly, with no chisel) so that when the time comes they might be placed just where they are supposed to go.
So worship of the God of glory now is to behold Him “in a glass,” in a reflection. But even before we are privileged to look upon Him directly, the transforming power is in evidence, even though we are worshiping Him via reflected glory. The transformation is still proceeding ahead. This is an inexorable spiritual law—you are conformed to the image of the God you worship. This is true of saints and idolaters both. Moreover, flipped around we should note that whatever image is taking shape in you reveals the identity of the god you worship.
We behold the glory of the Lord as in a glass, but we see that as we are increasingly conformed to His image, we are that glass for all our fellow saints. We see Him in a reflection; we provide that reflection.
So look to Christ. Reflect that Christ. Be a reflection of Christ for your fellow saints who are looking to Christ. And look to Christ in your brother’s reflection of Him to you.
We are reminded by Scripture to confess our sins. We are all mirrors, designed to reflect Christ to our fellow saints. This last week, our mirrors have gotten smudged, and we need to clean them. So, as you are able, please kneel before the Lord our God.
