Bishop Buttinski

The next word to consider is a mouthful — allotriepiskopos. It refers to someone who is a busybody in the affairs of others. In the latter half of the word we can see the word that is rendered elsewhere as overseer or bishop. This busybody, this renegade bishop, is engaged in looking over the shoulder of another so that he can butt in. The word is used once, by Peter, when he says, “But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a theif, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters” (1 Pet. 4:15). Look at the list, which is quite interesting. Let no man who is called a Christian be punished as a murderer, thief, evildoer, or buttinski.
