Anticipation as Wisdom

“At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Ps. 16: 11)

Growing Dominion, Part 135

“A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished” (Prov. 22:3).

Short term thinkers and long term thinkers are as apparent in the world of business as anywhere else. “What is likely to happen in the future?” is a reasonable question that everyone should be able to ask himself. What might come up? What unforeseen expenses could possibly arise? The simple says, glibly enough, that if we could foresee them they wouldn’t be called unforeseen expenses. But machines will need maintenance sometime, they will need to be fixed or replaced sometime, taxes come around every year pretty much at the same time. A wise man anticipates and prepares. A simple man passes on.
