“At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Ps. 16: 11)
Growing Dominion, Part 139
“He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come want” (Prov. 22:16).
We have seen earlier in Proverbs that the man who lends to the poor is lending to the Lord. The man who gives to the poor is helping himself. Here we see the flip side of the same truth. The man who gives to the rich will come to want. The man who squeezes the poor in order to make money will also come to poverty himself. There is a way to wealth that cuts corners, and makes all the obvious mistakes—at least considered in the light of scriptural truth. Included here would be flattery of the rich, and mistreatment of the poor. And there is a way to wealth that seems (at least to the carnal heart) counter-intuitive. That is another road less traveled.
