And the Spirit is the Car

Last week I mentioned the very common problem of father hunger. With reference to this meal, there are still a few things that need to be said about this. Jesus teaches us, plainly and explicitly, that He is the only way to God the Father. I am the way, the truth and the life, He said. No man comes to the Father except through Him. Notice that what He came to accomplish was us coming to the Father. The Father is the destination; the Father is the one to whom we are going. But how we come to Him through Jesus?

The Lord has established various means for us to come “through Him.” The first thing of course is to believe in Jesus, and to be baptized as He commanded. As Christians we are privileged to pray in Jesus’ name, and so this is how we pray. We pray to the Father, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and in the name of Jesus. If we may speak this way, the Father is the town we are driving to, Jesus is the road there, and the Spirit is the car. And this is how we approach the Supper. The Father is the one we are coming to. The Son, Jesus, is the means. In this case the instrument is bread and wine. And the Holy Spirit is the one who works powerfully to restore us to the Father. And He fills your father hunger.
