And From the Department of Creepy . . .

When I first heard the wowza reviews of the eye candy show in Avatar (from what I hear, Pocahantas with Blueskins instead of Redskins), the first thing I thought of was a passage from Lewis who, about seventy years ago, saw all of this coming.

How long would it take for bent men to turn this level of cunning aside for sexual use? Not long , apparently. God created man upright but he has sought out many devices. No kidding — many devices. On top of that, now a fellow has invented a sexbot , who is programed to talk to you, so that you can have a true companion (!).

I don’t know, man. A sexbot with an expression like a meth head, and who is guaranteed to have five personalities?

Anyway, here is the quote from Lewis.

“Ransom replied, ‘Sulva is she whom mortals call the Moon. . . . Half of her orb is turned towards us and shares our curse. . . . On this side, the womb is barren and the marriages cold. There dwell an accursed people, full of pride and lust. There when a young man takes a maiden in marriage, they do not lie together, but each lies with a cunningly fashioned image of the other, made to move and to be warm by devilish arts, for real flesh will not please them, they are so dainty (delicati) in their dreams of lust. Their real children they fabricate by vile arts in a secret place'” (That Hideous Strength)
