The body that was broken for you was a body broken on the cross. But the body that was broken on the cross was the same body that was formed in the womb of the virgin. And that body was taken on by the eternal Word in order that it might be broken. The blood that began to circulate in the veins of Jesus before He was even born was the same blood that was to be shed for you many years later.
Christmas is the opening move in God’s salvation of His people. As you reflect on the closing moves, the Lord’s passion and death, mediate on the fact that they are to be understood all together, as part of the same story.
