As many of you know, over the years I have made a goodish bit of fun at the expense of evangelical schlock. Some folks might be excused if they had come to the conclusion that perhaps I thought that evangelical schlock was the worst schlock there ever was. This would be a misunderstanding, but given the amount of time devoted to it, perhaps a reasonable one.
I bring this up because I just watched The Black Eyed Peas do their half time deal for the Super Bowl. My sentiments are similar to those of a friend who had been prevailed upon to go to a John Tesh concert, and who came out of it saying, “I owe Barry Manilow an apology.”
To all who have ever concluded that I thought that evangelicals were the prophets, priests, and kings of schlock, my humblest apologies.
