“We consequently gotta do something about historic male oppression, while fully recognizing that, having denied historical objectivism, for all we know, women may have ruled the world from the beginning . . . But remember the central abstract lesson that there are no central abstract lessons, and no problem so objectively real that we simply must attend to it. Some postevangelicals object to the violence against and marginalization of women. That is what works for them, and we should respect their personal space. Other postevangelicals want their women to wear gingham dresses, pick huckleberries, and have lots of fat little postevangelical babies. Whatever works” (Contours of Post Maturity, pp. 21-22).
