“At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Ps. 16: 11)
Growing Dominion, Part 169
“Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer”
(Prov. 28:24)
One of the things we do in families is we make ourselves at home. A member of the family can get in the fridge in a way that a guest shouldn’t, and this is not “taking liberties.” But when it comes to issues of larger financial import, it is important to remember that the liberty of a family member is not an absolute liberty. But one of the things a dishonest child will try to do is persuade himself that what he is doing is “all in the family.” So, if a teenager filches a twenty from his mom’s purse, and says, “it is no transgression,” the name of what has happened is still theft. And, when it comes to family businesses, the same principle applies. Just because someone is a son or a daughter does not mean they have the right to do what other bookkeepers do not have the right to do. The economic consequences of the theft remain the same – the books don’t know it was family member. Such an ungrateful child is “companion of a destroyer.”
