Gladness in the Sanctuary

Sharing Options

In this time of exhortation, it is easy to dwell on the things we are doing wrong, or might do wrong, as we approach the Father in worship. And to a point, this is actually as it should be — sinners must never become presumptive about anything.

At the same time, one of the things we might do wrong is to lose the keynote of gratitude, thanksgiving, warmth, contentment, blessedness — in short, we must never worship God in such a way as to rob ourselves of the spirit of adoption. We are the children of God. He has accepted us in the beloved, in the righteousness of His Son, which cannot be improved upon, and He has shed abroad into our hearts the love of the Holy Spirit.

As sinners, we must never forget that we are sinners. But also as sinners, we must never forget what sinners tend to do when they get religion. When the Pharisees were attacked by Christ, one of cloaks for their hypocrisy which He identified was that of a sad countenance.

The Lord God Almighty is meeting together with us now. He delights over us with singing, the prophet says. Never forget that God the Father sings with us, our High Priest sings with us, and the Holy Spirit sings through us. Your God inhabits your praises.

Your God is not glum about meeting together with you in order to renew the covenant. Neither may you be.
