Description
The rule is called by various names. Some call it the Billy Graham Rule, while others call it the Mike Pence Rule. I learned it from my father, who was scrupulous about this sort of thing. The idea was to stay out of one-on-one situations with any woman who was not your wife, mother, daughter, or sister. Or old enough to be your great grandmother.
A contrary position was taken up by Aimee Byrd a few years ago in her book Why Can’t We Be Friends? At the time, I blogged through her book chapter by chapter, but then got derailed right near the end. But a few months ago I decided I needed to finish it, and so I did. And here you are, wondering if it is possible for a man and a woman to be “just friends.” I argue that the answer is no.
