This is all true, but where’s the passion and the depth? The sermons in the Bible are like the entire ocean of the Bible on the tongue of a single man. How many preachers are able to accomplish a “topical” sermon with a command of the Scriptures like that of Stephen and Peter in Acts? Both men presented one main point, but they marshaled the entire history of Israel to make that one point. Most topical sermons are more like water torture: a repetitive drip that won’t stop.
