In Praise of Bystanders
Tablet Magazine has this piece on a recent attempt to absolve the Obama administration of inaction in the case of Syria. Quite interesting:

Doug, oh Word-Crafter for us stutterers, could you help us justify the “bystanderism” our Constitution seems to promote, what with all the leashes it suggests in there against our officials running loose what with all their assassinating and bomb throwing?

“Bystanderism”? Or in other words, “staying out of things that are none of our business”? What is it about the result of intervention in Libya that makes anyone believe we should have tried again in Syria?
I disagree with your post, as I am in some senses an interventionist, at least in the nonviolent sense. But it is mind-boggling to me that there are people who still think that the twin tools of “blowing people up” and “invading other nations” are no-brainers for a Christian, especially in a situation like Syria. And as poorly as Libya went, Syria would be worse on almost every possible level.
