Preach — vs the currently popular Teach through the Bible method that intentionally forces the speaker to address Scripture areas for which he might be less informed?

Is what’s at stake here the ability and capacity of a man to “own” his congregation?
That is, the Teach method = lends itself to a more passive, ivory-tower disconnect, while the Preach method allows apostolic type shepherding of a particular flock in a tailored, particular plan of attention and call to action?
