Shrill is bad? If you say so, I guess. How about a preacher smashing sacred stone tables in front of everybody? Whipping people with a scourge? Throwing down money changers tables? How about Gideon tumping over his dad’s idol? Try imagine Knox preaching something sophisticated, wearing skinny hipster jeans, with weedeater hair and a mug of latte, and saying it so doggone smoothly that the listener began to wonder three days later if he might should have been offended. Maybe the besetting sin of our generation is that we try to remain suave and urbane when the times call for… Read more »

I think he’s thinking of “shrill” as something other than “bold and forceful.” Maybe more like hysterical, or sound and fury accomplishing nothing other than conveying how furious the speaker is.

Thanks G’!????
I think I am called to “ministry” as a goofball!
Sounds like shrillness is a rare commonality between kooky liberals and kooky conservatives!????
I think they both should try being goofballs.

Finally, I cast no aspersions on Lady Dunsworth.
She is the Ice Queen of clear logic!????

I don’t know, if there is one thing we don’t lack for nowadays, it’s outrage.

A lot of what passes for outrage is just people putting on a show. The ongoing riots in Charlotte are a perfect example of that. It’s supposedly about whites killing blacks and getting by with it.

But in fact, not a single white person was involved in the shooting. Most of the people who have been arrested for rioting and looting are from out of town. This isn’t outrage, Matt. This is just gangsters, thieves, vandals, and petty criminals doing what they do.

C’mon. The man has gotten them down, so they have to vent their anger by stealing TVs and phones and ruining someone’s business. If you don’t understand that, you aren’t drinking the right kind of Kool-Aid.

I think the word “shrill” is illegal now because it’s anti-feminist. Report yourself for reeducation.

Is this actually considered a sin, or is “besetting sin” used in more of a “constant flaw” sense?

Good news! I am hoping your stance contributed to his firing. We need more of that.

Definite anger issues and is in real need of prayer.

God is a consuming fire. We don’t break the law, we break ourselves upon it.

I have prayed for him before typing this comment. I pray and hope that he learns to pray with us.

You did good work. You did the Lord’s work.

It doesn’t feel that bad. The straw for me was back when Cruz selected Fiorina as his running mate, but, remarking on this latest move, someone on the internet observed that perhaps Cruz can still save one of his faces.

This is where I am always afraid of discovering that something I have always believed is completely heretical. I think I was taught that God is pure Spirit, but I don’t see how that fits with the Trinity. I know that some modern churches get around that by saying God the Creator, God the Redeemer, and God the Sustainer, but that seems pretty dodgy to me. And surely the Trinity must be more than metaphor.

According to Jesus “God is spirit and those that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” So I wouldn’t say that’s completely heretical.

You can try this on for size, although it’s not Roman Catholic doctrine per se: “I. There is but one only,[1] living, and true God,[2] who is infinite in being and perfection,[3] a most pure spirit,[4] invisible,[5] without body, parts,[6] or passions;[7] immutable,[8] immense,[9] eternal,[10] incomprehensible,[11] almighty,[12] most wise,[13] most holy,[14] most free,[15] most absolute;[16] working all things according to the counsel of His own immutable and most righteous will,[17] for His own glory;[18] most loving,[19] gracious, merciful, long-suffering, abundant in goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin;[20] the rewarder of them that diligently seek Him;[21] and withal, most… Read more »

John 4 21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” 25 The woman said, “I… Read more »

The truth of the matter is that God probably exists outside of our ability to perceive Him, so above and beyond the biological definitions of sex, what we now try to call “gender.” However, given our limited experiences, our inability to really conceive of existence beyond our own biology, we have been given the analogy of Father, Male, Husband to the church, to point us closer to the truth of the nature of God. It is no accident that some are now trying to erase or alter that analogy, to present God as only Spirit, to remove all reference to… Read more »

Good thing that “some” have no compelling case that “spirit” is gender neutral in every case. “Bodies” and “flesh” are not gender specific terms, but that does not preclude the terms from being gender specific. “Spirit” is the same. Mark 12 23 At the resurrection[c] whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?” 24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 26… Read more »
