The Christ Church Facebook Page Is a Busy Place

Third Millennium

One of our Christ Church elders (Francis Foucachon) is doing great work with Third Millennium in the French-speaking world. You should really check out their work. And now I get word that a friend (Doug Tomlinson) is striking out to work with them, coordinating the translation of Third Mill materials into Thai. If you are interested in helping them out, then you can read more here.

Hooray for Dougs

CBS sports ran an article with this gem of a paragraph: “The only people who had a better week than Vikings fans are people named Doug. We are literally on the verge of an all-Doug Super bowl, which is arguably just as improbable as the ending of the Saints-Vikings game. Thanks to Jaguars coach Doug Marrone and Eagles coach Doug Pederson, this could go down as the greatest week ever for guys named Doug. Dougs are due.”

But Then On the Other Hand . . .

Below is a graphic I saw floating around on Twitter, taken from Pornhub. This tracks porn traffic on either side of the missile scare the other day, as compared with normal Saturday traffic. And the thing that came to mind was the testimony in Revelation to the incorrigible heart of man. After the judgments rained down, what does it say?

“And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds” (Rev. 16:10–11).

I would be very interested to hear what Doug has to say about President Trump doing a telecast to the March for Life. I can’t go this year, but went last year, and it was very nice to hear from VP Pence.

Smartphone Issues

As a dad with 4 sons (4, 7, 9, & 11) I’d love to hear any success stories from folks who have navigated or are navigating currently these “personal electronic device” waters with their children. What works, what doesn’t, etc. We’ve had some ups and downs already and are trying to dial it in.

My oldest son is 11 too and whenever anyone asks me when he can have a a phone (or tablet, etc) I say, “when he’s 18.” Being homeschoolers, we are less exposed to comparisons and pressure from the public school crowd whose children all seem to have their own phones by the time they’re my son’s age. I believe that in the future, people will look back and say” can you believe that they used to turn kids loose on the internet and Facebook and have their own phones?! ” much like people say now” can you believe that they… Read more »
