Black Douglas

The Desiring God folks have some video clips up promoting their national conference, and you can look at them here. The first is John Piper explaining, when he first had the thought of inviting me, why he didn’t lie down with a cold compress on his forehead until the feeling went away.

In the second clip, I give my testimony and background. And to save squinters the trouble, I will confess that some of the books in the background are by N.T. Wright. In my defense, I have not read all of them. But just to the left of Wright is that stalwart Cunningham, so I guess I am okay. The beer bottles are, from left to right, as follows: The first is called Calvinus — kind of a reformational Sam Adams. The other one is a Scottish beer called Black Douglas, given to me by a parishioner who thought she was funny, and who also thought the guy on the label looked like me.
