The Grace of Seeking Grace

Sharing Options

This meal is one of God’s appointed means of grace. We come to Him wanting that grace to be multiplied to us. But as it is multiplied, one of the things we must remember is that what is multiplied must come in a certain order. As a multiplication problem, if we just throw things down on the paper in random order, we are not good enough students to prevent ourselves from getting hopelessly confused.

So as we are seeking God’s grace, the first grace we must seek is the grace of understanding just how much we need His grace. Grace is foundational. Grace is at the root. Grace pervade everything. Grace is not an add-on extra; grace is not a decorative fillip at the end.

When we delight in grace, that is the only time when we can rejoice in being overwhelmed. And God frequently leads us into situations where we are overwhelmed precisely so that we may learn this lesson.

So look at the week ahead of you. Look at your challenges, any one of which could bring you down if it went the wrong way. What can sustain you? The grace of God. The morsel of bread in your hand. The small cup of wine. Is that enough? More than sufficient, more than enough. It is the grace of God.

So come, and welcome, to Jesus Christ.

Perhaps we need to remind ourselves just what Grace is.. I heard it described like this; Grace and Mercy are but two sides of the same coin: Mercy is not getting that which you deserve, Grace is getting that which you do not deserve.. The ultimate manifestion of this reality is Heaven and Hell, not only are you given Mercy by sparing you Hell, which you deserve, but you are given Grace by being accepted into Heaven, which you do not deserve..

How is this possible? The Cross, The Cross..
