There was a conservative and Dutchy denom
That passed a report with indignant aplomb.
But we never bleed,
If our critics can't read,
And so here's to a missing-the-point pheenom.

. . . I don't believe I have ever footnoted a limerick before, so here you go.

Could it be that FV is so replete with nuances that it has some of us confused? After all, in your linked post you seemed to be implying that the FV position is congruent with the position of the URC. In these sparring sessions, wouldn't it be charitable to point out exactly where you differ (instead of where you concur with them) for the sake of those of us that are trying to objectively educate ourselves in this matter?

Doug,

Please put a permanent

using HTML code. I
can't get a link to

The greater offense that I see
Far greater than dissing FV
Your limerick rhythm
Is worthy of schism
With heterodox prosodee
Douglas Wilson  Saturday, July 31, 2010 7:09 am
David, you're kidding, right? It is more offensive to say folks can't read to the point of missing the point, in a way that scans (kinda) than it is to pass that farrago of slanderous nonsense in solemn assembly? And then sing a hymn? Sorry, when groups like that are bent on making themselves a laughingstock, I can't stop them. Not that I haven't tried.

Speaking of foot notes: anapest. Happily, a little tweakage sets it right:

A conservative Dutchy denom
Has condemned us with incensed aplomb.
But we never bleed,
If our critics can't read.
Hail the missing-the-whole-point phenom!

David Paul Regier  Saturday, July 31, 2010 7:20 am
Yes, kidding about the greater offense.

I just stumbled over your limerick's feet.
Jane Dunsworth  Saturday, July 31, 2010 7:25 am
I believe Mr. Regier was dissing the construction of the limerick, not its sense. And I must most regretfully concur. Valerie's rework is commendable.
Valerie (Kyriosity)  Saturday, July 31, 2010 7:35 am
Thank you, Jane. As you know, I've written dözens of them. (I ask everyone else to forgive the Valerie-Jane inside joke.)

There once was a fellow named Linn
Whose coding skills caused him chagrin.
But links? They ain't nuttin':
Just click the link button,
Hit one key, CTRL-V, and it's in!

**************

In simpler English, click the button with the globe and the chain links. This will give you {url}{/url}, only with square brackets. After the first "url" hit one key, the = sign. CTRL+V to paste in your URL directly after that. Then between the first close bracket and the second open bracket, enter the text you'd like to be clickable. For instance (remembering that the curly brackets are filling in for the square brackets):

{url=http://wastehowlingwilderness.blogspot.com/}ofs's blog{/url}

becomes

David, thanks for the clarification. Sorry for missing your objection.

And to all, we poets can't be constrained by arbitrary societal norms.

"[W]e poets can't be constrained by arbitrary societal norms." Ours is a high and lonely destiny.

I can't resist a limerick. How about this:

A church that we call URC,
Passed a memo condemning FV,
But if dealing with letters,
I think they'd be better
Off relearning old ABC.

Limericks are fine and
dandy, but the real
skill in in Clerihews.

I did this one during
a debate with the
subject:

Francis Nigel Lee
Sailed across the sea.
Way down under did he go;
Now his head's below his toe.

There is a large slanderous farrago
That follows me ev-er-y where I go
Perhaps if he’d read
He’d finally concede
And save me from all this despair I know

Their enemies have entered a pact
to set the poor FVers aback
but alas they can't read
or decipher their creed
for they haven't developed the knack.

It's that big little word "subscription" in their report that leads them to this nonsense. I can't wait till your FV leads you to abandon it.

The URNCA’s Synod

Tried to draw some FV blood.

But they missed in great disgrace.

And cut off their nose to spite their face.
